Tom Homan, acting director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement during part of the first Trump administration, had already told Democratic governors to “step aside” shortly after being selected for the role Monday by the president-elect.

But he appeared to go further during an appearance with Fox News’ Sean Hannity later that night.

Hannity proposed a “grace period” during which undocumented immigrants have time to get their affairs in order and leave the country, then ultimately be allowed to seek legal return to the United States.

“Criminals and gang members get no grace period,” says Homan replied. “While we prioritize threats to public safety and national security, if you want to self-deport, you should self-deport because, again, we know who you are and we’re going to come find you .”

He said criminals and gang members “do not get any favors from this administration” and that “we are coming for you.” And he added that he was “all in favor” of people “deporting themselves”.
