Kentucky Humane Society Hosts Open House for Foster Families

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – The Kentucky Humane Society is hosting a Foster Open House to find caregivers for dogs and cats of all ages. The open house will be held on Saturday, November 16 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Sam Swope Animal Treatment and Rescue Center, 241 Steedly Drive.

No RSVP is required to attend. At the event, interested caregivers will learn more about the program and meet animals in need of shelter.

Ice Ice Shavy will be on hand with treats for guests and pets, with a portion of sales going to KHS shelter animals.

“KHS is facing the same crisis as other animal shelters across the country,” said Sara Rehfeld, director of operations for the KHS shelter. “Foster families expand the walls of our shelters and allow us to care for more animals in need by temporarily opening their hearts and homes to shelter pets. »

Foster placements can last from a week to a month. KHS also says it is ready to accommodate holiday schedules.

Complete a foster placement application at kyhumane.org/foster. Once approved, applicants will be matched with the pet that best suits their home.

“Fostering is a rewarding way for families to help animals in need without committing to adoption,” said Ashley Abell, director of KHS Foster. “It teaches children about animal safety and responsible pet ownership and makes a big difference in the lives of shelter animals.”
