Submissions are now open for the UP-wide new student competition

UPPER PENINSULA, Mich. (WLUC) – Teachers can now submit their students’ news stories to an annual contest.

It’s time again for the Dandelion Cottage Short Story Competition. THE Upper Peninsula Publishers and Authors Association (UPPAA) accepts news for the eighth year. Teachers can submit an unlimited number of stories.

UPPAA President Victor Volkman says stories are judged on quality of writing rather than length, and applicants must be part of a UP school district.

Volkman says the competition was started to allow young authors to develop their work and be recognized for it.

“As a young person, it’s easy to say to yourself: ‘I’m the only one writing, I feel like I’m a little bit left out, maybe a little geeky, or maybe marginalized’ , and it’s really a chance to take a step forward. into the spotlight and saying, ‘Hey, I have something to offer the world, the world likes me,'” Volkman said.
