MAY’S DECISION PRESENTS IN THE MIDDLE OF BENJI’S SEAT

Exiled Roosters gun Terrell May has reportedly sat down for a meeting with Tigers coach Benji Marshall, with a three-club race for his signature.

Alongside the Tigers, the Dragons and Bulldogs are reportedly keen to sign the Samoan prop, who has been informed he is free to leave the Tricolors club immediately in a shock move.

According to The Daily TelegraphMarshall and May met on Tuesday and left the meeting impressed after the rookie coach outlined his vision for the club.

Jarome Luai’s arrival in 2025 is also expected to play a role, with the former Panthers five-eighths close to the May family after Taylan and Tyrone previously played for the club.

Luai reportedly had conversations with May regarding a possible move to the Tigers during their time together in the Samoa camp, while touring England.

Meanwhile, May has reportedly already had conversations with Shane Flanagan and Cameron Ciraldo, with a decision looming over her future.

Roosters coach Trent Robinson described his conversation with May as “difficult” after calling the front rower to inform him he was free to go.

“Terrell is a very, very good player. That’s why I faced him in so many matches this year. But it gives an opportunity for some guys below to play more,” he told News Corp.

“Terrell won’t have trouble finding a club, with the quality he plays with. He doesn’t have a bad temper, he hasn’t done anything wrong.

“I think it was thrown out there. He’s added value to our group and there’s just a few little details about how we want to play and also Terrell’s longevity.

“We felt it was time to go in a different direction and we expressed that to Terrell. The hardest part is that people have questioned his character on this and that shouldn’t be the case.

CROSS CODE STAR DRAGONS POACH

Shane Flanagan and the Dragons have reportedly signed an Australia Sevens star as the player transfer war between rugby union and league continues.

According to The Daily TelegraphNathan Lawson was signed by the Red V ahead of the 2025 season, and the club are reportedly considering him as an option to feature on the wing.

The 25-year-old was awarded the John Eales Medal as the country’s best rugby sevens player two weeks ago, but has now turned his back on rugby union.

Lawson joins Valentine Holmes and Clint Gutherson as Red V’s backline recruits, with competition intensifying for spots under Flanagan.

Youngster Tyrell Sloan’s full-back spot is set to be taken by the Eels’ new captain, as he now faces increased competition for a place on the wing.

Lawson is the latest player to switch codes, with Mark Nawaqanitawase (Roosters) and Carter Gordon (Gold Coast) joining their respective clubs in 2024.

Will Warbrick, meanwhile, is an example of another rugby sevens star who has enjoyed a successful stint in rugby league.

Meanwhile, former Roosters star Joseph Suaalii has had a remarkable rugby debut, playing at inside center for the Wallabies in their win over England at Twickenham over the weekend.

Australia’s men’s rugby sevens program was also hit by uncertainty after the Olympics, with coach John Manenti resigning to join US rugby union.
