West Fargo man accused of embezzling $2.7 million from Fargo construction company

FARGO, ND (Valley News Live) – Daniel Lindgren, 29, of West Fargo, has been charged with felony theft, in a case alleging he stole more than $2.7 million from a Fargo construction company .

Court documents state that on Oct. 26, Fargo agents were called to Shorestone Development to take a fraud report. Owner Mark Payne reported that Lindgren, the company’s chief operating officer, had embezzled a significant amount of money from the company over the past three years. Court records indicate Lindgren had access to 5 business bank accounts, including Payne’s personal bank accounts.

In the report to police, Payne said he was alerted by Bell Bank to fraudulent activity on one of the business accounts. On October 18, Payne and Lindgren met in person with a Bell Bank representative, who believed Lindgren was embezzling money from the account. It is noted in court documents that Bremer Bank also accused Lindgren of embezzling a significant amount of money.

A review of Bremer Bank bank records from May 31, 2022 to September 30, 2024 revealed that out of 345 business checks, 262 of them were issued to Daniel Lindgren for a total of $2,716,180.50.

The Payne family says they are still working with other banking institutions regarding the other business accounts, to see if there has been any fraudulent activity on those accounts as well. Court documents indicate that the total amount of Lindgren’s embezzlement will continue to rise.
