Search continues for missing 5-year-old child in Hauser, footprint found near her home

5-year-old boy from Hauser still missing and the investigation is currently underway; however, clues have been found, according to the Coos County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Gabe Fabrizio said discarded packages and others were located in the area where Joshua James McCoy was last seen.

“Researchers found a footprint near the house. They will definitely use it as a focal point for research. It hasn’t led to the child’s disappearance yet… but it’s on the map and it’s something we keep in mind,” Fabrizio said.

Nearly 100 people came out Tuesday looking for McCoy, including the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, as well as local firefighters.

Support from search and rescue teams, K9s, drones, air support, deputies, detectives, local officers as well as state and federal agencies are all working together to locate McCoy.

As authorities continue their search, law enforcement is asking the public to avoid the area during the investigation. Fabrizio says the reason is that it will make the search more difficult and could destroy investigation evidence; however, he appreciates the community’s willingness to help.

“The community has come together and been absolutely amazing in providing support, food and well wishes,” he said. “We truly appreciate everyone who supports our efforts and I hope they know that we are truly using every resource possible.”

A local business owner in Hauser, Tishiea Johnson, wanted to give the public the opportunity to help with the search by providing food to any officials searching for McCoy.

“There are so many people who want to help with this research, but they don’t want people up there searching, they want professionals up there, so I thought this would be a way to get involved community in helping without hindering the research process,” she said.

More than 100 hamburgers, cheeseburgers and potato salads were donated Tuesday by the public and numerous businesses to authorities and the market which plans to provide food each research day.

Johnson said if the public would like to donate, the foods sought are “dried meats, nuts and healthier options.” a lot of cookies and candy have already been donated,” according to Johnson.

McCoy went missing three days ago in Hauser and CCSO is asking the public to avoid the area near Stage Road while the investigation takes place.
