“Whether it was exposing bogus Russian collusion as a Clinton campaign operation to exposing the FBI’s abuse of civil liberties in the FISA court, John Ratcliffe has always been a warrior for the truth and honesty with the American public,” Trump wrote in a statement Tuesday. “When 51 intelligence officials were lying about Hunter Biden’s laptop, there was one, John Ratcliffe, who was telling the American people the truth.”

Asset awarded Ratcliffe the National Security Medal, the nation’s highest honor for an intelligence officer, in 2020. He would be the first person to serve as both DNI and CIA director, following Senate confirmation .

Trump, currently leading his presidential transition from Mar-a-Lago, has gradually added allies to his Cabinet in recent days, including a number of top national security posts.

In addition to Ratcliffe, the president-elect named Rep. Mike Waltz (R-FL) to be his national security adviser at the White House.

Trump has would have been set to Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Governor Kristi Noem (R-SD) will serve as secretaries of State and Department of Homeland Security, respectively. However, Trump’s transition team has yet to officially announce either selection.

Trump also elevated his co-campaign manager, Susie Wiles, to his White House Stephen Miller, longtime chief of staff and policy advisor, will be his deputy chief overseeing policy.
