State warns public about scams targeting Hawaii real estate investors

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The state is warning the public about a recent real estate scam.

Officials said scammers send letters, posing as government entities, targeting individuals and businesses with false information to trick them into investing in nonexistent properties.

A recent report states that scammers have been impersonating actor Jason Momoa to attract funds.

“I have noticed scammers using my name to promote fake real estate opportunities,” Momoa said in a statement. “I want to assure everyone that I am not associated with these programs and have no partnership with any real estate companies.”

The state Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs is asking the public to report these scams by calling (808) 587-4272.
