Oregon Ducks maintain first place in College Football Playoff standings

Amid the upheaval and shuffling in college football, the Oregon Ducks remain quietly atop the latest College Football Playoff rankings.

Oregon remains No. 1 in the CFP rankings, the selection committee announced Tuesday night during ESPN’s live rankings reveal show. The Ducks (10-0, 7-0 Big Ten) are unanimously No. 1 in the AP and Coaches polls after beat Maryland 39-18 this last Saturday.

As planned Big Ten ChampionOregon would benefit from a first-round bye and an automatic bid into the 12-team playoff. The No. 1 seed Ducks would play in the Rose Bowl, where they would face the winner of a Dec. 20 or 21 first-round playoff game between projected No. 8 seed Tennessee and No. 1 seed 9 Notre Dame.

Under the new College Football Playoff rules, the five highest-ranked conference champions receive an automatic bid and seven additional teams receive at-large bids based on the committee’s ranking. The four highest-ranked teams among the conference champions receive a first-round bye and participate in a regionally advantaged major bowl game, played on December 31 or January 1.
