Shamaree Siller identified as father killed in Country Club Hills shooting outside Hillcrest High School; police search for wanted car

COUNTRY CLUB HILLS, Ill. (WLS) — Parents react to a middle school student seeing his own father killed right in front of him as Club Hills County police continue to search for the suspects.

Grief counselors are available Tuesday at Prairie-Hills District 144 after a parent was killed at a school sporting event over the weekend.

“I would like to know what the motive would be for that… that you would come and shoot someone in front of their child and in front of other children. And so I think with the grief counselors, that should help them,” said parent Bishop Williams.

On Saturday afternoon, police said suspects in masks and hoodies waited for the victim in the Hillcrest High School parking lot and shot Shamaree Siller, 41, in front of her college-aged son as they left a tournament basketball.

“I mean, it was our kids basketball team that was there, so…Very scary situation as a parent, very scary,” said parent Wes Casper.

“It’s just uncalled for, unheard of and just disappointing,” Williams said.

This is the second shooting at this school in just over a year.

“It really hurts my heart that this child witnessed his father being murdered in the parking lot,” said parent Shay Hollins. “I really pray for his family.”

Police released surveillance photos of the wanted vehicle, a black Infiniti Q50 sedan.

They said there was no evidence of an argument inside the school…nor that the suspects entered the school that afternoon.

Shay Hollins has children at Prairie-Hills and Hillcrest High School. She said she would like to see more police presence and protection, given growing concerns.

“It shouldn’t be this way,” Hollins said. “The police station is literally across the street, we have to do better. We have to.”

A school spokesperson said police were present at the school during Saturday’s basketball tournament and said they prioritize security at all school events, including sporting events.
