Following the easy FBI reveal about Maggie, I return to what Missy Peregrym told me about her most complicated relationship

Spoilers are ahead for episode 4 of FBI Season 7, titled “Doubt”.

CBS’ FBI looked into a sexual assault case that grew more and more complicated the more they worked on it in “Doubted”, thanks to BAU profiler Sydney Ortiz who brought it to the team’s attention. Not so long ago, National treasure: edge of history alum Lisette Olivera was set to join the hit drama like the new regular series, but Syd’s time will be limitedand I was more struck in this autumn episode TV schedule 2024 by a few easy-to-miss Maggie moments that make for a touching revelation. They also reminded me of what Missy Peregym shared with CinemaBlend earlier this year about Maggie’s relationships.

What ‘doubted’ was revealed about Maggie’s personal life

The main character of the new November 12 episode was definitely Syd, which wasn’t a surprise since that was supposed to be the case when introducing her as the new regular member of the team. As a longtime fan of learning more about Maggie’s life and story, my ears perked up when the agent mentioned her sister, Erin. When speaking to Syd about her actions while investigating an assault on her own sister, Maggie said:

For what it’s worth, I could never have stayed away either. If someone went after my sister, I’d want to go after that guy too.

Erin has not appeared on FBI Since Maggie made a difficult decision about her in season 5, and their relationship has been complicated every time they’ve interacted on the show so far. Their interactions don’t always make Maggie the best because of Erin’s history with the digs, but I also think they lead to some of Missy Peregrym’s Most Convincing Performances. Later during the conversation with Syd, Maggie said:

Yeah, I find it hard to believe my sister too… She has her demons.

The way Maggie mentioned Erin’s demons made me think that maybe the sisters hadn’t made much progress in their off-screen relationship since season 5. It turns out, however, that her resigned reference to the “demons” was perhaps simply due to the memory of their struggles, as she dropped this line to OA as they celebrated the closure of the case at the end of the episode:

I called to check. She is doing very well. I mean, it helps that she likes Erin.

Honestly, if I wasn’t such a fan every time FBI delves into Maggie’s family and history, I might have easily missed that the agent was presumably referring to her sister when she mentioned “Erin.” Surely there couldn’t have been any other Erin when Maggie dropped the name in the same episode that referred to her sister, right? It’s all about context with these two, and I know where the context of “Doubted” points.

I certainly took the quick line as a sign that Maggie and her sister have not only reconciled, but are on good enough terms that Maggie trusts Erin with Ella and that they have spent enough time together that Ella loves him. Overall, this reminded me of a conversation I had with Missy Peregrym during season 6 about Maggie, Ella, and Erin.

What Missy Peregrym shared about Maggie and Erin

I spoke with Missy Peregrym in March after the massive development for Maggie that she was to become a mother to young Ella. At the time, the actress opened up about how her character tried to help Ella in the wake of a tragedy while giving her her all at work. it just didn’t make sense at this point in Season 6. I also asked her if her complicated relationship with Erin prepared her for the complications of caring for a grieving Ella, and Peregrym responded:

I think that would make things even more complicated. (As Maggie) I don’t have a good relationship with my sister and that’s all I want to have but I don’t know how to have a healthy one. I don’t have the tools to create space and therefore we can be in a healthy relationship. It would be painful for me to not share this with her or not have this fallback. That’s another thing we can explore. The complications this entails are something I would like to explore. How to reunite the family?

While FBI technically didn’t explicitly say that the “Erin” Maggie mentioned at the end of “Doubted” was actually her sister, I really see it as a sign that Missy Peregrym’s character really explored and resolved some of these complications . Granted, the actress was probably hoping to do this on screen in one episode, but it’s a nice idea that Maggie has her sister as a fallback and can have more family than Ella does these days. Peregrym continued:

She is my real family, and then I have the responsibility to take care of this child, to be her family and to create something new. You’ll probably feel ill-equipped or question yourself because if you can’t even do that with your sister, you feel this pressure of how can I lead a child and take care of a child and know that I Do I have what it takes to really show up? But again, I love the gray area. I love sitting in the complicated dynamics of people. They could take it wherever they wanted. I just have to wait and see.

If the mention of Erin at the end of the season 7 finale is indeed confirmation that the sisters are back on good terms, having to “wait and see” has been less than a full eight months since Peregrym shared her thoughts and when “he doubted”. broadcast. Overall, I’m now tempted to go back and rewatch previous episodes with Maggie and Erin, which is quite easier with a Paramount+ Subscription.
