KEY BISCAYNE, FLA. (WSVN) – Miami-Dade police are investigating after a human head was reportedly found washed up on a Key Biscayne beach.

The remains were reportedly found at 251 Crandon Boulevard on Tuesday morning.

Area resident James Harrington’s usual morning walk took a somber turn due to the disturbing discovery.

“It’s a very sad situation,” he said. “Well, unfortunately, it looked like there was a body in a black bag.”

When asked what was found on the shore, an MDPD spokesperson said, “It looks like a head.” »

This scenic section of Key Biscayne went from quiet to terrible as officials closed part of the beach.

MDPD and Key Biscayne Police officers spent the morning investigating all-terrain vehicles and a police boat.

“There were about six or seven police officers who were keen to make sure no one approached the scene,” Harrington said.

Investigators have not said the nature of the remains or whether they belong to a man or a woman.

“I’ve never seen a situation like this in Key Biscayne before,” Harrington said. “It’s a very sad day for the family involved, yes, and for the entire community.”

The medical examiner will work to identify the remains, while detectives try to determine what happened.

As of Tuesday evening, neither police department has released a statement on the matter.
