‘Weary’ Truro City see unbeaten record end at Boreham Wood

Truro City manager John Askey said his side looked “tired” during their 1-0 defeat at Boreham Wood in National League South.

Charles Clayden’s close-range goal three minutes after the break was enough to earn the hosts all three points.

Andrew Neal almost equalized for the Cornish side, but produced a fine save from Boreham Wood keeper Nathan Ashmore.

The defeat ended an eight-game unbeaten run for Askey’s side who remain second in the table but are now three points behind leaders Weston-super-Mare, who also have a game in hand.

“We’ve come here to one of the biggest spenders in the league and it’s probably one of those games where we could have had a break between the last few games,” Askey told BBC Radio Cornwall.

“But we didn’t have that and it tested the team and we just didn’t have enough tonight.

“We had to play better when we had the ball, we gave the ball away too cheaply,” added the Truro coach.

“The commitment was there, everyone really went for it, but we just didn’t have enough tonight and one or two looked a little tired.

“We needed a break before playing them. We had talked to the league, but they forced us to play tonight.

“It was just one of the ones that got away from us.”
