What you need to know

  • Google may soon give Gemini Live the ability to manage and interact with your files.

  • Google app code suggests that file management features will soon be available in Gemini Live, including a “Talk Attachments” option for document discussions.

  • Gemini could detect file uploads (direct or via Google Drive) and prompt users to upgrade to Gemini Live for interactive file discussions.

Google is apparently giving Gemini Live the power to understand documents, so it could soon take over managing and using your files.

According to Android Authoritythe latest beta version of the Google app hints that users will soon be able to upload files directly to Gemini Advanced while using Gemini Live.

In the flow Gemini In the chat interface, users can upload files, with Gemini Advanced subscribers enjoying the added benefit of allowing the AI to analyze or edit these files.

But during a recent dive into the beta version of the Google app (version 15.45.33.ve.arm64), Android Authority found some interesting code. This points to the possibility that file management features will soon be available in Gemini Live, with a new “Talk Attachments” feature suggesting a new way to interact with documents uploaded by users.

Code found in the Google app suggests Gemini can detect file downloads, whether done directly or through Google Drive. Once it detects it, Gemini will prompt you to move to Gemini Live, where you can discuss what you want to do with the file.

Additional code in the Google app points to options like “Open Live with attachment,” suggesting that Google could direct users to Gemini Live after downloading a file.

While it’s not set in stone, it appears that Gemini Live will likely focus on interactive discussions, helping users delve deeper into the main points of their documents in a more conversational way.

The option to adjust or edit attachments will likely remain a Gemini Advanced user-only feature in the standard chat interface.

At the moment, the feature is inactive and it is still unclear how Gemini Live will interact with files. There is no official release schedule and it is not yet tested. This gives plenty of room for the feature to grow, and we’re excited to see how it evolves.
