How to see the next Full Moon?

One of the best things about seeing the full moon is how easy it is to spot, especially at its peak. For a breathtaking view, try observing it at moonrise or moonset, when it appears largest on the horizon, framed by foreground features like buildings or the natural landscape.

The full moon will rise above the horizon in the early evening in an east-northeast direction. It will then trace across the sky and head west-northwest.

It’s best to view the full moon at sunrise and sunset through an optical illusion, which makes the moon more impressive when it’s near the horizon.

“At dusk, the residual sunlight scattered all around by our atmosphere allows us to admire the landscape, while the full moon rises or sets”, Gianluca Masi, astronomer of the Virtual Telescope Project, said previously News week.

“Furthermore, at rising and setting, the moon appears behind monuments and landscape features, giving the impression that its disk is larger than usual. But this is only an illusion. optics resulting from the presence of these terrestrial elements in the field of vision that our brain uses for comparison purposes.

No special equipment is required to view the full moon, but clear skies are essential. Check your local weather forecast for cloud cover.

The full moon will also appear brighter if you’re away from city lights and light pollution, so try to find a dark spot if you can.

How often does the full moon occur?

A full moon occurs approximately once every 29.5 days, the time it takes for the Moon to go through a cycle of lunar phases as it orbits Earth.

Full moons occur when Earth is between the moon and the sun, meaning the entire side of the moon facing us is illuminated by the sun’s rays.

The moon doesn’t generate any light of its own, meaning we only see parts illuminated by other light sources. A small amount of light comes from the stars and some comes from the Earth itself, called “earth glow.” However, the vast majority comes from the sun.

While full moons occur every lunar month, supermoons do not. Because the Moon’s orbit around Earth is not perfectly circular, it is sometimes closer to us. Supermoons occur when the moon reaches one of these closest points, called “perigee,” which makes the moon appear larger and brighter.
