Spotify Queue Update Fixes One Problem But Creates Another

Spotify on mobile

Tech Team/Android Authority

TL;DR

  • Spotify has updated its mobile app, introducing a completely revamped queue with a more modern design.
  • Queued songs finally display their artwork, making it easier for users to identify tracks visually.
  • Unfortunately, the updated queue has apparently lost the ability to select and delete multiple songs simultaneously.

Spotify is one of the most popular music streaming servicesspeaking to millions of listeners around the world. Despite its success, its application continues to be fraught with small inconveniences that bother some users. Fortunately, Spotify’s latest update fixes a key queuing issue that has plagued the app for years.

New Spotify Queue Design

As spotted by u/Borapay07 on Reddit Spotify is rolling out a completely redesigned UI for its mobile app queue. Most notably, the queue now displays song artwork next to their names. This makes it easier for users to identify upcoming tracks at a glance, as many recognize songs visually via their album art.

Unfortunately, the updated queue has apparently removed the ability to select multiple songs at once. Before this redesign, users could easily mark and mass delete queued tracks. Now, those who customize their queues may have to get rid of unwanted songs individually.

Beyond functionality, the updated queue features a more futuristic design with bolder UI elements. Toward the bottom, users can switch between shuffle, repeat, and the built-in timer. Queued songs take up the rest of the screen, along with their names, artists, and album art. At the very top, there’s a play/pause button next to the track you’re currently listening to. Based on the screenshot shared, it appears that the skip and rewind buttons have also been removed from the new queue.

Like most other Spotify updates, the revised queue will likely roll out to users gradually. If you haven’t received it yet, make sure you’re using the latest version of the app on your iOS or Android phone.
