Plans for Brightline station on the Treasure Coast approved

STUART, Florida. – Plans for a Brightline station in Martin County are back on track, after commissioners approved the plans.

In a meeting TuesdayMartin County commissioners voted unanimously to begin negotiations for construction of the station that would add an additional stop between Orlando and Miami-Dade County.

In September, the The Stuart City Board of Commissioners voted 3-2 in favor of overturning a land and station lease agreement for a Stuart connection with Brightline.

The proposed Stuart Station was located on 2.35 acres in the heart of historic downtown Stuart, Martin County.

The city of Stuart, Martin County and Brightline planned to share costs for the $60 million station, which would have been located about 40 miles north of Brightline West Palm Beach.

The high-speed rail company celebrated the inaugural launch of its Miami-Orlando route in September 2023.

There are currently stations in Miami, Aventura, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton, West Palm Beach and Orlando.

Stuart Station is expected to be operational in 2028.
