Sarahbeth Taite Shares How a Toddler Ended Up Revealing the Sex of Baby #2 (Exclusive)

Sarahbeth Taite‘for baby No. 2’s gender reveal didn’t go quite as planned, but it was still a special moment for her future family of four.

In a video shared to Instagram and TikTok, the country singer, 26, and her husband Colby Shaw, 33, sit with their baby daughter, Isla. While they ordered a cake to serve as a reveal — either pink or blue frosting was inside, and they weren’t sure which — the way the couple actually found out their news was even sweeter than expected.

“We go out onto the lawn and start setting up, but we haven’t taken into account my toddler’s excitement about the cake,” Taite tells PEOPLE. “It took us so long to remove the cover and get the cake out of the box, and she’s already starting to get impatient. You’ll see in the video that we gave her a small cup that already had frosting in it that she could eat while we settled in.

When Taite and Shaw put two glasses in the cake, the second the frosting is visible, Isla adorably blurts out “Rose” and then returns to her frosting.

“None of us thought she would be the first to see it. It’s so funny,” the future mother of two says with a laugh. “She knows her colors and we should have thought of that, but you’re so distracted in your own moment. And then she came with the answer.”

“It’s such a lesson in how things turn out differently than you planned. It’s so fun to go with the flow and roll with the punches. Things can end up even better than you expected, especially with little ones,” she adds.

The little girl is excited to welcome a little sister, although Taite thinks she hasn’t fully grasped the concept yet.

“Our dog is also a girl and they are best friends. So she calls our dogs sissy and all she knows is that now she has two sissies,” Taite says. “When we say our prayers at night, she says, ‘Thank you for my two sissies,’ but I don’t think she really understands where the other one is coming from.”

From the moment of the reveal, Taite can already tell that the sisters will share a special bond.

“The fact that Isla can forever tell him that she told us about her sister is so sweet. You think of all the different ways we could have found out – we thought the doctor would tell us over the phone. ” she said. “We were debating between cake or confetti poppers or whatever. Then the fact that it turned out like that, it was so cute. It ended up being our favorite girl who had to tell us about our new daughter .”

Another special moment both sisters will have to look back on is Taite’s Grand Ole Opry debut earlier this month.

“I feel like I still feel a sense of euphoria after that. It was the most special night of my entire career,” she says. “I’ve been pursuing a career as an artist in Nashville for over a decade. I’ve spent time doing this since I was 14. It’s been my dream to experience this moment all that time. So the The fact that I got to do that with Isla in the audience and her little sister in my belly, it was so monumental for me.”

She continues: “It’s the icing on the cake of the last decade and a sweet way to end the year and make a brand new start.”

Taite adds that she is now looking forward to a quiet end to the year, filled with family time before the new year brings a new baby and a fresh start.

“It all seems like perfect timing to me right now. I’m in full nesting mode heading into the holiday season,” she says. “I’ve been so busy throughout Opry weekend. This whole year, for me, I’ve been trying to put out all this new music and do as much as I can. And now I’m really ready to enjoy my family, have our little Christmas and get ready for baby.”

Taite “can’t wait” to see what 2025 has in store for him.

“I just feel like this next phase is really going to be a whole new chapter of me and my career,” she says. “I’m finishing the year writing too, so there will be some new songs.”
