In honor of her son Roman’s first birthday, Jana Kramer reflects on a frightening experience while she was pregnant.

“The before and after I prayed for,” Kramer, 40, wrote via Instagram on Tuesday, November 12, alongside photos of Roman’s room before and after his birth. “On the eve of Roman’s first birthday, I feel all the emotions but above all a great gratitude. Around 8 weeks pregnant, I started bleeding profusely. I started crying because I knew exactly what was happening, as I had had several miscarriages in my past. I was shocked when we saw a heartbeat later that day.

She continued: “I was told I had a subchronic hemorrhage (sic) and since the hemorrhage was bigger than the baby’s at the time, there was a 50/50 chance I would have a miscarriage. »

Kramer rejoiced, saying she “so grateful” for her husband, Allan Russellfor having heard “the positive side” while THE A tree hill alum admitted “all I heard was that I’m going to lose the baby.”

“For the next 8-10 weeks I was seeing blood and for anyone who has had a miscarriage, you know it’s the most uncomfortable thing to see when you’re pregnant. But the bleeding disappeared and Roman continued to grow,” she wrote. “Then there was the fibroid that kept growing and which we were told could interrupt the placenta. Every day I prayed so hard that this sweet baby would keep beating.

Kramer explained that when she wrote prayers and scriptures on the foundation of their home, all she could think was “just keep beating baby.” (According to Kramer’s Instagram post, the phrase “Keep beating baby” was written on a beam in the room next to a heart.)

“I’ve had several miscarriages and it’s not lost on me that I got pregnant the first month we tried,” she continued. “I hope that no matter how old you get, how long it takes, or how lost you are, you never lose hope. I know it’s not easy and I’m sorry…but I can promise you that God and their heartbeats will always find a way.

Kramer and Russell, 43, welcomed their son Roman in November 2023. “Allan and I are both thrilled and truly grateful to announce the birth of our son, Roman James Russell. We feel lucky to have had the chance to create something so special together,” the couple said in a statement to People at the time. “The name Roman isn’t really inspired by anyone, it’s just a strong name that we both love, but James (his middle name) was both of our grandfather’s first names, so it was a nod to it. ‘look at them.’
