Latest Trump: Trump reveals details of his meeting with Biden – as Mar-a-Lago insiders go after Musk | US News

Tech billionaire Elon Musk scored a major victory yesterday when President-elect Donald Trump announced he would co-lead a new government efficiency department with Vivek Ramaswamy.

This announcement reinforces the closeness that Musk seems to have established with Trump. But to some people in Trump’s orbit, Musk’s presence seemed authoritarian.

Musk has been so aggressive in making his case for Trump’s second term that he is stepping on the toes of the Trump transition team and may overstay his welcome at Mar-a-Lago, according to two people familiar with transition who have spent time at the Palm Beach, Fla., resort over the past week.

The sources said Musk’s near-constant presence at Mar-a-Lago in the week after Election Day began to take a toll on people who had been in Trump’s inner circle longer than the billionaire of technology and who saw it as overstepping its role in the transition.

“He acts like he’s co-chair and makes sure everyone knows it,” one of the people said of Elon Musk.

“And he’s certainly taking a lot of credit for the president’s victory. He’s bragging about America PAC and X to anyone who will listen. He’s trying to make President Trump feel indebted to him .And the president doesn’t owe anyone a debt,” the person added.

Musk did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

A second person said Musk had an “opinion on and about everything” and shared it so forcefully that he started harassing Trump insiders.

“He wants to look like he has a say in everything (even if he doesn’t),” the source said.

The individual said some Trump advisers expressed concern that Musk didn’t understand a key to being effective in Trump’s world: keeping a low profile. Musk’s commitment was too aggressive and could damage his reputation in the long term, the source said.

The second source also said Musk appeared to be promoting his own agenda, instead of focusing on Trump’s. They said that while Musk is clearly an intelligent and competent person, the transition is about ensuring that those loyal to Trump will be the ones to implement government policies.

In a statement, Trump-Vance transition spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said: “Elon Musk and President Trump are great friends and brilliant leaders working together to make America great again.

“Elon Musk is a once-in-a-generation business leader and our federal bureaucracy will certainly benefit from his ideas and efficiency.”
