Predicting which teams Deion Sanders would keep Shedeur Sanders from being drafted by

Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders projects to be one of the first names called in the 2025 NFL Draft. But apparently some teams picking at or near the top of the table won’t even be in the running for his services.

Colorado head coach, NFL legend and father of Shedeur, Deion Sanders, recently addressed the subject on FS1 Talk. He made it clear he wasn’t afraid to step up if the “wrong” team selected the highly touted second-generation candidate.

After hearing Deion, we wonder: which teams are not suitable for Shedeur? And what about those potential suitors who put him off?

Below, we predict who Deion would tell Shedeur to avoid.

Deion can look no further than the current and constant chaos surrounding the New York Jets knowing Gang Green is not an option for his son.

It’s seemingly something new every week for quarterback Aaron Rodgers and the Jets. Plus, the vet’s presence for 20 years surely complicates things for Shedeur, even though he’s apparently considering retirement more and more with each passing day.

In a year where the Jets had legitimate Super Bowl aspirations, they’re 3-7 and one game behind the 2025 No. 1 overall pick. If that’s not Exhibit A as to why Deion can’t let Shedeur play for them, what is this? New York’s organizational dysfunction comes from the top down, starting with ownership.

The Jets offer dynamic and skilled young players, including running back Breece Hall and wide receiver Garrett Wilson (as well as veteran star Davante Adams). If anything, they have two aging offensive tackles, which could be problematic for Shedeur — or whoever Rodgers’ eventual successor is.

Notably, New York will be looking for a new head coach this offseason after firing Robert Saleh earlier this year. Plus, it’s hard to believe Joe Douglas survives this brutal season, which means they could also be looking for a new general manager.

Shedeur and Deion would do well to avoid the Jets.

About two decades ago, the New York Giants were on the favorable side of this situation to legendary franchise icon Eli Manning. The two-time Super Bowl champion declined to play for the then-San Diego Chargers, and the rest was history. Fast forward to today, and Big Blue could be getting cornered by the Sanders camp.

The G-Men have been on fire ever since Manning retired (and frankly, it started a few seasons ago). Certainly, Coach Prime noticed, especially as a former NFL analyst. Additionally, the Pro Football Hall of Fame has a checkered past with New York going back to its pre-draft evaluation process, further fueling the narrative.

Last but not least, the Giants have one of the darkest offensive line prospects in football. Beyond incredibly talented, if oft-injured, left tackle Andrew Thomas, they don’t have much up front. Although 2023 second-round center John Michael Schmitz has shown improvement, he has yet to live up to expectations. All-time draft pick Evan Neal is a liability with little hope of resurgence. The lack of pass protection will force Shedeur to run for his life, which Deion will naturally not agree with.

As you can see, there is a recurring theme here. Always poorly managed, cellar franchises have no chance of landing Shedeur, as the Cleveland Browns are the poster child for.

The biggest elephant in the room is futile starting quarterback Deshaun Watson and his fully guaranteed $46 million salary for 2025 and 2026. Does Deion want Shedeur to end up on a team where financial reasons may keep him stuck? on the bench at the start of his career? We don’t think so.

Cleveland will enter payroll hell next season, largely because of Watson. As it stands, they project that they will be over $43 million over the salary cap in 2025. So, the Browns will have difficulty adding talent around Shedeur due to their lack of monetary resources.

An already disappointing Browns offense that gave up its only known receiving product doesn’t have the funds to acquire a true No. 1 pass rusher in Shedeur. Not to mention, Cleveland’s offensive line is deteriorating and is no longer the premier unit it has been regarded as for so long. Yet they cannot afford to meet any of these needs.

Combine Cleveland’s long and rich history of misfortune and ineptitude with their current status as the Browns, and you say goodbye to any hopes of Shedeur.
