Richard Sherman identifies Seattle Seahawks LB failure

The Seattle Seahawks dramatically overhauled their linebacker room this offseason, with the departure of Bobby Wagner and Jordyn Brooks and the arrival of Jerome Baker and Tyrel Dodson. Halfway through the season, this overhaul has already failed.

On October 23, the Seahawks traded Baker to the Tennessee Titans with a fourth-round pick for an upgrade at the Ernest Jones IV position. Then on Monday, a few weeks later, they gave up on Dodson in stunning fashion.

It’s clear now that the Seahawks made a mistake at linebacker, especially with Wagner and Brooks playing well for their new teams.

In the latest episode of his self-titled podcast, Seahawks legend Richard Sherman identified what, at least in his opinion, went wrong throughout this process.

“You said, ‘Hey, we’re going with PFF’s top-rated and second-rated cover linebackers,’ wait, what?'” Sherman said. “No offense to these guys, these guys are quality players and could probably play, but there’s a reason Mike Macdonald looked at the tape and said, ‘He’s the problem.’ , we’re cutting him.” “There were some issues in the running game and we couldn’t get any stops. That was the most politically correct way to put it: He should go for it.” policy.

“Then you trade Jerome Baker for the linebacker you wanted. So that’s $11 million you spent on linebackers to replace Bobby Wagner who is no longer on the roster nine games into the season. I don’t know not if Bobby makes $7 (million) this year So you could have spent $7 million to keep a guy who knows his team, who knows his teammates, respected in the locker room. and it’s even more frustrating to see the moves now because you’re basically admitting that you made mistakes.

Hindsight is obviously 20/20, but it really shows how important project fit is. Baker and Dodson showed they are solid players, but it just didn’t work in Seattle.

Now, Seattle is handing over the reins to Jones and fourth-round pick Tyrice Knight and hoping for better results.
