Delhi records ‘alarming’ AQI of 428; residents call for help as activities affected

A thick layer of smog enveloped the nation’s capital as pollution levels continued to rise. The AQI level in Delhi at 8 am was 428, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). Bhayender, a local resident, said daily activities were affected due to increasing pollution.

“Pollution has increased. We face respiratory problems and eye irritations. We used to go running, but we are not even able to do that now,” he said while speaking to ANI.

Raunak, a student at the school, said he was continually coughing due to the excessive pollution around him. “I go jogging every day. But these days, with the increase in pollution, I am coughing continuously, which could also affect my lungs. If there was controlled use of pollution and more vehicles running on CNG, the problem could be solved However there is no cooperation from the people,” Raunak said.

Prateek, another local, said visibility was reduced and people started feeling suffocated. “The pollution level has increased a lot. Visibility on the roads has decreased, there is hardly any visibility, our eyes are burning and we are starting to feel suffocated. The government must do something about this,” he said. Prateek said.

Meanwhile, on November 13, the Central Government, in consultation with the CPCB, exempted certain categories of industrial installations from the provisions applicable under Section 21 of the Air (Prevention and Control of Hazard) Act, 1981. pollution).

The exempted industries and sectors listed in the notification include assembly of air coolers, repair and maintenance, assembly of bicycles and other non-motorized vehicles, biofertilizers, manufacturing of cotton, wool and hosiery, assembly of surgical and medical products and many others.

According to the notification, the sub-sections from which the sectors have been exempted are: “All industrial plants having pollution index up to 20, as given in the annexure to this notification, subject to the condition that such factory informs by writes the state pollution control boards or pollution control committees,” the notification issued by the central government read.”

Delhi Airport Implements Low Visibility Procedures

Low visibility procedures were put in place at Delhi Airport for flight operations on Thursday morning due to poor weather conditions.

“Low visibility procedures are in progress at Delhi Airport. All flight operations are currently normal,” airport operator DIAL said in a message on X at 7 am. It also asked passengers to contact the relevant airline for updated flight information.

On Wednesday, at least 10 flights were diverted and many flights were delayed due to poor visibility conditions.
