Rosen discusses priorities after election victory

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – Celebrating his re-election, Jacky Rosen is turning his attention to new legislation aimed at tackling housing affordability, health care and reproductive rights.

“My motto is agree where you can and fight where you must,” Rosen said.

The newly re-elected senator says she has already set her priorities for this term, starting with her desire to pass the Home Act, aimed at making housing more affordable and accessible for Nevadans.

“If you’re their corporate investors coming to Nevada, buying apartments and houses, driving up sales prices that no one can afford, we’re going to fine them, and then that money will be reinvested into a fund. swimming pool to pay for affordable housing.

Rosen also emphasized her commitment to protecting access to health care, particularly the Affordable Care Act, which she said is vital to saving lives amid continued challenges to legislation under the new Trump administration .

“Imagine, God forbid, that you have a child with diabetes, allergies or asthma. You have condemned them to live their entire lives without being able to get insurance, to having insurance denied or to having it so expensive that they will never be able to afford it,” she said.

The senator will also take a strong stance on reproductive rights. She raised concerns about restricted access to abortion in other states, citing recent cases in which women were denied health care, with deadly consequences.

“I don’t want a Nevada woman to go to the hospital due to a pregnancy problem and be denied access, and die like she did in Texas and Georgia from a complication preventable,” Rosen said.

Childcare is also a priority for Rosen. She joined bipartisan legislation aimed at increasing the availability of affordable child care by allowing qualified small business nonprofit child care providers to participate in loan programs.

“Like our YMCAs, churches, synagogues and Boys & Girls Clubs will have access to grants from the Small Business Administration so they can set up child care at a reasonable rate,” Rosen said.
