REDGRANITE, Wis. (WBAY) — Six K9 units were brought to the Redgranite Correctional Facility on Wednesday for a contraband search.

The communications director for the Wisconsin Department of Corrections told Action 2 News a routine search was conducted Wednesday afternoon at the prison. Searches are carried out regularly to ensure safety, the DOC said.

The K9 units came from Waushara County, Waupaca County and Washington County.

The search was for any contraband, which can include items like drugs, but also items like cell phones. The DOC could not confirm Wednesday evening whether any contraband was found during the afternoon searches.

Although the search was described as routine, the communications director did not have an exact number on how often searches were conducted at Redgranite Prison. The number of searches may vary depending on the establishment.
