They will be shown arrested in case filed for crimes against humanity and genocide, prosecutor says

The International Criminal Court (ICTY) today ordered relevant authorities to produce before it on November 18 20 people, including 10 former ministers and two advisors of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, for crimes against humanity and genocide perpetrated during the July-August uprising.

Anisul Huq, Abdur Razzaque, Faruk Khan, Dipu Moni, Shajahan Khan, Golam Dastagir Gazi, Kamal Ahmed Majumdar, Zunaid Ahmed Palak, Salman F Rahman, Toufiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, Rashed Khan Menon and Hasanul Haq Inu are among the 20 people . .

The three-member court, headed by its chairman Justice Md Golam Mortuza Majumdar, issued the orders after the prosecution filed two applications to have them arrested, BM Sultan Mahmud, ICT prosecutor, told The Daily Star .

The court is expected to present the 20 arrested people on November 18 once they are produced before it in the case filed for crimes against humanity and genocide, he said.

Meanwhile, the court today issued arrest warrants against 17 staff members, including former DMP commissioner Habibur Rahman, in another case on similar charges, following a request presented by the prosecution.

The court ordered the authorities concerned to arrest the 17 policemen and produce them before the court on November 20.

On October 17, the court issued arrest warrants for Hasina and 45 others, including her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy and several of her former cabinet members.

The other two members of the court are Justice Shafiul and Justice Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury.

At least 753 people, according to the Health Ministry, were killed and thousands injured during the uprising, which the TIC prosecution team and the interim government have described as crimes against humanity and genocide.

So far, more than 60 complaints of crimes against humanity and genocide have been filed against Hasina and her party leaders with the ICT investigation agency and the prosecutor’s office.

The Hasina-led AL government formed the International Crimes Tribunal in March 2010 to try the perpetrators of crimes against humanity committed during the Liberation War.

He then formed ICT-2, and at least six leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami and BNP were executed following the judgments of the two courts. The court has remained inactive since mid-June following the retirement of its president.

The caretaker government reconstituted the court on October 12 after reconstituting the prosecution team and the investigative agency last month.
