Dereham residents express concern over surgery closure

If the ICB’s plan were to go ahead, 4,000 patients would be transferred to Orchard Surgery and Theater Royal Surgery in Dereham on April 1, 2025.

Both Paul Catling and Belinda Aldiss would be affected by the proposed closure of the practice in different ways.

Mr Catling is a patient at Toftwood and is at risk of being transferred to another GP practice in Dereham.

He said: “There’s a lot of resentment and anger. It’s just unbelievable. The GP surgeries in Dereham just won’t do.”

Ms Aldiss is a patient at the Theater Royal surgical practice, where people like Mr Catling would be treated if the Toftwood practice closed.

She said she was disappointed with the meeting.

“(The ICB) didn’t know how to answer the questions correctly.

“They keep saying the deal hasn’t been done, but I think it probably is.”

Ms Aldiss said it was already taking too long to get an appointment.

“I took my mother to the Theater Royal surgery for an ECG (electrocardiogram). She had to have a follow-up appointment.

“They said I’m sorry but we can’t have you in for a month. It’s a bit disgusting.”
