King Charles reveals what made him cry recently

The night before his 76th birthday, King Charles revealed at a reception at Buckingham Palace that he had recently broken down in tears – and Queen Camille is apparently to blame.

The king, who celebrated his birthday on November 14, said on November 13 that he was moved by the Queen’s recently released documentary, Her Majesty the Queen: behind closed doorswhich debuted on ITV1 on November 11.

At a reception celebrating the film and TV charity alongside Camilla, 77, Charles spoke with guests about the 90-minute film, which highlights the Queen’s work in giving voice to victims of domestic violence – a cornerstone of her royal work. In the documentary, Camilla said she would fight to end domestic violence until she was “no longer able to.”

Speaking to actor Damian Lewis – who also said he too had watched the documentary – the king said of the film, according to The telegraph“It’s very moving, isn’t it? I think BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) is interested in it.

The monarch also spoke at the reception with Kerene Barefield and Naveed Chowdhary-Flatt, the director and producer of the documentary, and told them he was “moved to tears” when he watched a preview -first in Scotland.

“I am very proud of it,” added the king. “It made me cry.”

In a lighter moment with Lewis, the actor – who plays Henry VIII in the BBC series Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light – joked with the king: “At least you can pretend that you are not related to him. »

Charles, who was watching Wolf Hall with Camilla, said: “You look fantastic in this. Could you please pass on my regards to your fellow actors? They are simply awesome. (Lewis was actually bad in his teasing —Charles is actually related to Henry VIII, although he is a distant relative.)

Although Camilla joined Charles for the reception, she didn’t accompany him later that evening at the world premiere of Gladiator II as she returns to her royal duties after a lung infection this led her to Miss Remembrance Events last week. She told guests at the reception that she had felt “absolutely rotten” last week, but that she “on the mend.”

The film and television charity, of which the King is patron, supports the welfare of those who work behind the scenes in the industry and is celebrating its centenary. Prince Edward and the Duke And Duchess of Gloucester also attended the reception alongside the King and Queen, and the King took over the patronage of his late mother, Queen Elizabethwho held this position from 1952 until his death in 2022.
