Republican presidential candidate and former President Donald Trump has claimed that Google CEO Sundar Pichai called him to greet his recent visit to a McDonald’s restaurant in the US state of Pennsylvania.

During an appearance on the Joe Rogan podcast, Trump said: “I was at McDonald’s last week and I got a call from Sundar Pichai. “It’s the biggest thing we’ve had in years,” he said, referring to Google’s CEO. Trump noted that Pichai had described visiting McDonald’s as “one of the most important things” on Google in years.

Trump’s visit to McDonald’s

Trump’s visit to the fast food giant was seen as a strategic move to target his Democratic rival and Vice President Kamala Harris in the run-up to the November 5 election. The campaign was intended as an attack on opponent Harris, who claims to have worked in a fast food franchise in her youth.

Trump has repeatedly said Harris never worked at a McDonald’s while in school, an experience she talked about during the campaign. During the Rogan podcast, Trump joked that he worked “15 minutes longer than her” at the fast food chain, referencing his past comments about his own experience working at McDonald’s.

Kamala Harris “lied”

Trump claimed Kamala Harris “lied about” her job at McDonald’s. “The manager said she never worked there,” the former US president said. In addition to Pichai’s praise, Trump aired his grievances with Google. He accused the search engine of bias, saying it only showed negative stories about him.

At an event hosted by the Economic Club of Chicago on October 15, he mentioned contacting Pichai to express concerns about search results associated with his name. “I’m getting a lot of good stories lately, but you can’t find them on Google,” he said, calling the situation “rigged.”

Trump’s criticism of Google reflects a broader narrative he has supported regarding perceived bias by big tech companies toward conservative figures. He specifies that if he has 20 positive and 20 negative articles, only the negative ones are visible on Google.
