Iowa State Fair to end contract with operators of popular concession stand

DES MOINES, Iowa (KCRG) – The State Fair is terminating a contract with the operators of a popular concession stand after saying they failed to pay thousands of dollars in employee salaries and expenses.

The fair’s CEO says Steer N’ Stein operators Michael and Kimberly Krantz owe the fair more than $100,000.

The Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals has received at least 14 complaints from Steer N’ Stein employees regarding non-payment.

An outside contractor claims the Krantzes owe $218,000.

The Steer N’ Stein booth achieved more than $1.28 million in sales at this year’s show.

Show staff will now consider proposals from others to operate the stand.

The Krantzes are also the former owners of Adventureland amusement park and face ongoing legal issues following the death of an 11-year-old boy on a ride in 2021.
