Austrian brand KTM may have taken a five-year break from the Eicma show in Milan, but that hasn’t stopped them from returning with a full fleet of new stuff – including a spicier 390 Adventure R model due to arrive in dealerships from FEBRUARY.

The bike was displayed at the Italian show without any accompanying information, and the full spec sheet is expected to arrive in the coming weeks – ready to capitalize on the growing demand for smaller, more accessible models. adventure bikeswhich essentially costs less money.

To learn more about the mystery machine, we took 10 minutes with KTM’s product marketing manager to off roadDiete Engelbrecht during the show, who detailed the expected performance, features and pricing in more detail.

“Demand is now in the middle class, so the LC8c engines and smaller,” Engelbrecht said. “That’s really where the big market is going and that’s what we want to focus on.” People want technology that is lighter, cheaper and not so sophisticated.

“They are built in January 2025, so in February you will see them in dealerships,” the spokesperson continued. “You’ll also get different specs – it’s now the R and it has a 21-inch front wheel (18-inch rear), but you’ll also get another model with a 19-inch front wheel and a rear wheel. 17 inches a little lower, more different seat configurations.

The models will be powered by the same 399cc single-cylinder LC4c engine found in the current model. 390 Duke. Official horsepower and torque figures aren’t finalized yet, but we’re told the bike will post similar numbers to its naked sibling, around 44 hp and 29 lb-ft of torque, and A2 license unrestricted compliance.

Pricing is also expected to be similar to the Duke at £5,699, with the Adventures also designed and developed in Austria before being built in India through a production partnership with Bajaj. THE Husqvarna401Vehicles that also share this engine are also built there.

“We wanted to keep it more in line with the rest of our adventure line, so keep it more distinctive with the 1390 Adventure look that has the new headlight, as well as future models that will follow that same look,” Diete continued. “It’s a completely new frame and swingarm. Nothing is shared with old Adventure or with the Dukes.

Although it’s a completely new frame, there are clear parallels to be drawn with the steel trellis layout of the 390 Duke, including the design of the upper beam above the cylinder head. Additional reinforcement appears to be in place at the bottom, towards the swingarm pivot, with the swingarm itself also closed rather than latticed open like on the Duke.

“The main news now is that you have cruise control,” Engelbrecht continued. “This is a big novelty compared to the other 390s: they don’t have cruise control. You also have three different driving modes: Street, Rain and Off-Road.

“Off-road you also have ABS, you also have cornering ABS and you have cornering traction control.”

ABS can only be deactivated at the rear, but a sleeker 390 Enduro R will offer the option to deactivate intervention at both ends.

Far from the electronics, we find the WP Apex suspension at the front and rear, with a travel of 215 mm. The bike seen on the stand has been further enhanced with optional WP Pro components – an option likely to be selected by only the most hardy adventurers.

“On the standard suspension, up front, you can adjust the compression and rebound – you can’t adjust the preload, but on the Pro components you can,” he added. “At the rear you can adjust the preload, compression and rebound. It is fully adjustable at the back.

“It also now has a five-inch TFT dashboard, which means you have turn-by-turn navigation and you can control the music and all that via KTM Connect. You also get a USB-C charging port.
