Three years after the release of the last James Bond film, No time to dieand Daniel Craig’s farewell to the role of secret agent, rumors about possible successors swirl – British actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson is the latest hot candidate, but no one has been confirmed.

While fans of the spy franchise beginning to lose patience with the wait, this interruption comes as a welcome relief to real-world individuals named James Bond.

Yes, they exist, and for some, having the name 007 has proven to be a curse – as a new documentary explores, Our name is Bondnow streaming on Apple TV and Prime Video.

“I had to filter through a lot of fake James Bonds to find the real ones,” says director Matthew Bauer. The Australian filmmaker scoured Facebook for people who reflected as diverse a Bond group as possible.

“There were all these articles saying the next (cinematic) James Bond would be black and the James Bond would be a woman and the next James Bond would be a gay man. So it was important for us to have a (real) black James Bond because obviously he would tend to be different from most people’s image of James Bond.
