Nyls Korstanje named in Netherlands squad for Budapest

Nyls Korstanje, Caspar Corbeau and Kira Toussaint among the eight Dutch teams for the short course Worlds

Nyls Korstanje And Caspar Corbeau were named on a list of eight The Netherlands for next month’s World Short Course Championships in Budapest.

The team includes four men and four women for the competition which will take place from December 10 to 15 at the Duna Arena, with the eight selected following their performances at the Drachten Qualification Competition (DQM) in October or at the one of the stages of the World Cup.

Marrit Steenbergen, Tes Schouten And Arno Kamminga had already indicated earlier that they would skip the Short Course World Championships and opt for a longer rest period after the Olympics.

Korstanje is coming off a great World Cup run where he finished second behind Noah Ponti in the 50 and 100 m fly at each of the three stops in Shanghai, Incheon and Singapore.

His time of 21.74 in the shortest race in Singapore was a Dutch record and moved him to second all-time behind Ponti who holds the four fastest times in history, topped by his 21.50 WR, with the duo set to reconnect in Budapest.

The 25-year-old, who also set a Dutch standard of 48.99 in the 100 fly, already has three short course world medals at Windsor 2016 and Melbourne 2022.

Corbeau reached the podium in the 200m breaststroke at each of the three stages, signing off his program with gold in Singapore. His trip to Budapest will conclude a great year during which he won Olympic bronze as well as two silvers at the world championships in Doha in February.

Also selected Kira Toussaint who has five short course world medals to his credit.
