Man Wakes Up to Cat on His Bed Warming His Feet, But There’s a Problem

On Wednesday, a man woke up in the middle of the night to a confusing and slightly alarming furry object warming his feet: a cat that didn’t belong to him.

Questions quickly arose in Niklas Cyris’s mind when he woke up to a cat warming his feet while he slept. Although not uncommon for cat owners, Cyris does not have a cat.

He said News week that his first thoughts were: “What… I don’t own a cat…? Wait… Yeah no. I don’t own a cat… Who are you?” He said he stared at the cat for about a minute or two, trying to determine if it was still dreaming.

“I’ve never seen this cat before, but it turns out he belongs to my neighbors and has been living with them for a few weeks now,” Cyris said.

Her neighbors recently started letting their one-year-old Chartreux cat named Lyusya out. That night, Lyusya thought he would be a friendly neighbor and introduce himself to Cyris. It wasn’t necessarily a good time since Cyris was sound asleep, but the cat saw a small space between her blackout blind and the window sill and tried its luck.

Lyusya made himself comfortable. He jumped onto the bed, nestling against Cyris’s feet.

Cyris does not normally keep the window open at night. That night, however, was humid, so he decided to open it to get some fresh air from the yard. He quickly realized that it might not have been his best decision, but luckily he didn’t mind the unexpected company.

“Since then, I keep my kitchen window open during the day, at least until the snow and freezing temperatures arrive,” he said. “Lyusya has come to visit us several times since that first night.”

Cyris, known on Reddit under the name u/LordLightsaber621, shared his story on the subreddit channel r/cats, where it garnered over 23,000 upvotes and 573 comments. Like Cyris, people were shocked to see the cat waltzing inside like it had been there a million times before.

“The look on this adorable kitten’s face is that he looks like he was out late at the catnip bar and realized he was in the wrong house and bed.” joked one Reddit user.

Some were all surprised, calling it a “foot warmer delivery system.”

“I mean, he’s a cute cat. I’d keep my kitchen window open,” another Reddit user commented.
