Today’s Wordle went pretty well for me. I started with “GAMER”, which gave me a useful green letter right off the bat, then tried “BACON”. With two green tiles, I then tried “HACKS”, which was just enough to move me to “TACKY” on my fourth guess.

The etymology of today’s Wordle

The root word “tack” of “Tacky” comes from the Middle English word tak, which comes from the Old Northern French word “taque” (meaning nail or pin). This word dates back to Proto-Germanic, where it was initially a word meaning spike or pin.

There are also a range of games that have tweaked the Wordle formula. Square challenges you to find a series of words by connecting letters in a four-by-four grid. In the meantime Dordle, Quorodly, Grantly And Sedecordle all stick to the standard Wordle, while increasing the number of words you need to find. The challenge lies in how your guesses count for all words. So you need to decide whether you are going to focus on a specific word or try to solve multiple words at the same time. Fortunately, the number of guesses given to you increases as the number of words you have to solve.

If you want a break from spelling, try GeoGuessr. Here you will be given an image of somewhere, anywhere, in the world and asked to place a marker on where you think that location is. There is even a Old-School RuneScape version.
