Disneyland prepares to open Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, based on 2009’s “The Princess and the Frog,” on Friday

ANAHEIM, Calif. — Disneyland is preparing to open its new attraction, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, which is based on the 2009 animated film “The Princess and the Frog”.

The ride officially opens to the public Friday in the park’s Critter Country. Riders are warned to expect to get wet during the ride.

Renee Barrios Jr., project controls manager, says the ride picks up after the events of the film.

“Tiana is having a party, a celebration, and she needs…someone forgot the musical ingredient so we have to go find some musicians in the bayou,” he said.

The ride was originally called Splash Mountain, after the 1946 film “Song of the South.” Critics have called for the ride to be changed due to controversy surrounding the film’s racial undertones.

The revamped ride takes about 10 minutes once you get there and includes two falls, including a 50-foot drop. Expect to hear music throughout the ride and see new and old characters from the film.

There will be a virtual queue for the first few days the ride is open, which you can join on the Disneyland app.

A party was underway Wednesday at Disneyland as the park prepares to open its newest attraction, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.

A party was held Wednesday before the opening. Among those on hand for the celebration were stars of that film, including Jenifer Lewis and Anika Noni Rose, who also provided audio for the attraction.

“It’s historic,” Lewis said. “I mean, it’s the first African-American themed ride in the parks and we’re proud of it. We love that it’s in New Orleans.”

“Fifteen years have passed and this revival of Tiana and ‘The Princess and the Frog’ is just phenomenal,” Rose said.

The Disneyland Resort Holiday Celebration also begins Friday. You can experience the magic of vacation at Disneyland and California Adventure Park.
