As India celebrates Guru Nanak Jayanti and Karthika Purnima today (November 15), banks in some states across the country will remain closed, according to the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) list of public holidays.

Major cities where banks will remain closed today are Aizawl, Belapur, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Hyderabad – Telangana, Itanagar, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Kohima, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Raipur , Ranchi, Shimla and Srinagar. Then November 17 is Sunday and banks in Karnataka will also be closed on November 18 for Kanakadasa Jayanti.

Guru Nanak Jayanti will be celebrated today, marking the birth anniversary of the first Sikh Guru, Guru Nanak. This day is celebrated on the full moon day of the month of Karthika.

THE RBI publishes regional and national holidays on its website. Banks are closed on Sunday, the second and fourth Saturday of the month. As noted in the RBI public holiday calendar, banks in India will remain closed for a total of 12 days in the month of November, including public holidays, regional holidays and regular closures on Sundays, second and fourth Saturdays. RBI classifies holidays into three categories: real-time gross settlement holidays, bank account closure holidays and holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act.

Although banks remain closed on these days, customers can access banking services through net banking, ATMs, mobile apps and bank websites.

Upcoming public holidays in November:

November 18 (Monday): Kanakadasa Jayanti – Banks will remain closed in Bangalore.

November 20 (Wednesday): General meeting Election2024 – Banks will remain closed in Belapur, Mumbai and Nagpur.

November 23 (Saturday): Seng Kutsnem – Banks will remain closed in Shillong.
