Volleyball star signs NLI with University of Iowa

ALACHUA, Fla. (WCJB) – A new chapter is about to begin for one of the nation’s brightest volleyball talents. Santa Fe High School standout Gia McGrew has officially signed her National Letter of Intent to play for the Iowa Hawkeyes. After a dominant senior season, which saw her rack up 322 kills, 79 digs and 5 assists, McGrew is ready to make the jump to the Big Ten and make her mark at Iowa.

Starting in January, McGrew will join the Hawkeyes as they prepare for the upcoming Big Ten volleyball season. With a clear drive to succeed, she is ready to help Iowa climb the ladder in one of the toughest conferences in the country. McGrew isn’t just looking to make the team, she’s looking to create her own legacy and build something special at Iowa.

It’s no surprise that McGrew is already poised for success. Both of his parents were elite Division I athletes. His mother, Nina McGrew, played volleyball for the Gators and his father, Reggie McGrew, played football at Florida. With such an athletic pedigree, McGrew has the drive and determination to succeed at the highest level.

“I almost cried, but I think that’s just because I had such a great support system behind me, and you know, I pray to God every night for opportunities like this, so I “I’m very grateful for that,” McGrew said. “I mean, I grew up with great athletes around me, so I always looked up to them, I had incredible role models from my mom to my dad, and then, you know, I grew up learning simply by practicing this sport and loving it every day.
