Body of deceased hunter found in Great San Dunes National Park

Tragic news was shared of Large sand dunes National Park on the morning of Thursday, November 14 as the Alamosa Volunteer Search and Rescue Team announced the news that the body of a deceased hunter had been found in the park in late October.

Lance Walker, a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, was on a hunting trip when he was late on the evening of October 30. hunting partyincluding his brother, began searching for him via the SOS function of their Garmin Satellite device on October 31.

By the time his body was discovered, he was already dead. The terrain was difficult and rescuers had to be called in to help.

AVSAR, Saguache County Search and Rescue, Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve, and the National Park Service came together for a complicated recovery.

It ultimately took seven team members and several different types of equipment, but the mission was ultimately completed by the end of the day on November 1.

Walker’s cause of death is unknown, although it is officially described as a “tragic accident” by the rescue team.

“Captain Walker owned Fish Commander Guide Services in Grand Isle, Los Angeles. He was committed to providing his clients with a top-notch experience when taking them fishing in the Gulf of Mexico, ensuring that They brought back not only a ton of fish but also unforgettable memories,” a section of his obituary reads. “But Lance’s passion for fishing was surpassed only by his passion for hunting. His adventurous spirit led him on hunting trips across the country, always in search of another trophy deer or elk with a greater support than his previous victory Lance enjoyed his hunting trips with his children, dad, brothers, nephews and friends, all of whom will cherish their adventures with him.”

Great Sand Dunes National Park itself is not open to hunting, but Walker was a licensed and licensed hunter for the legal National Reserve section of the park. This makes for an interesting and somewhat reserved hunting experience.

Although not particularly dangerous in itself, you can never be too careful when planning a hunting trip. This is especially true if one is considering splitting from the party. Hunters of any experience and skill level are prone to accidents, so it is extremely important to follow all possible guidelines before leaving on a trip.
