Search for Rocky Point murder suspect lasts nearly week

The ongoing search for a suspected killer along Long Island’s North Shore has residents on edge.

Residents in the Rocky Point and Shoreham areas reported several significant police presences throughout the week, including mobile command centers, undercover officers and helicopters overhead.

On several occasions, police closed roads or diverted traffic for the investigation in the area of State Route 25A and William Floyd Parkway, although police have not confirmed that this was related to this investigation.

Police have charged Matthew Zoll, 23, with fatally stabbing his father, Joseph Zoll, 61, at their Rocky Point home last Saturday, Nov. 9. Police publicly named Matthew as a suspect the next day.

Investigators said Matthew was 6 feet 1 inch tall and 150 pounds, with brown hair, brown eyes and a small scar under his left eye. The posted photo of Matthew showing him with shorter hair was taken last month, police said.

Authorities do not believe Matthew has a vehicle.

Anyone with information on the location of Matthew Zoll is asked to call 911, the Homicide Squad at (63) 852-6392 or Crime Stoppers at (800) 220-TIPS.
