The agency warned of up to 20cm of snow in northern England and southern Scotland, with a warning covering the region from 10am Monday to 10am Tuesday.

Another snow and ice warning covers northern Scotland from 4pm Sunday until 11am Monday.

Met Office deputy chief meteorologist Rebekah Hicks said the UK would start to see much colder weather weather report from Sunday as a low pressure system moves to the north.

She added that the cold front could “probably reach all parts of the UK by mid-week”.

“Temperatures will drop as a northern airflow develops, bringing colder Arctic air. This introduces the possibility of snow, initially on higher ground in the north from Sunday, with gusts winds also a potential danger,” Ms. Hicks said in a statement released by the forecaster.
