Fire breaks out in the basement of BKC metro station and services are suspended for more than 2 hours

A fire broke out in the basement of the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) metro station in Mumbai, Maharashtra on Friday afternoon, leading to the suspension of train services, officials said. The fire, which broke out around 1:10 p.m., was limited to wooden sheets, furniture and construction materials located 40 to 50 feet below the station. The fire was concentrated in a non-operational part of the station under construction, near the entrance/exit to the A4.

No injuries have been reported so far, according to a civic official, news agency PTI reported. Eight fire trucks, along with other fire brigade vehicles, were dispatched to control the situation.

In another message, he informed that train services at BKC Metro station have been fully restored.

BKC Metro Station is part of the 12.69 km long Phase 1 of MMRC’s Mumbai Metro Line 3 (Aqua Line), which connects Aarey JVLR and BKC. This line was inaugurated last month by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In a statement issued at 3:35 p.m. by MMRC, the organization clarified that the fire occurred near the entrance/exit of the A4, which is still under construction. Despite the fire causing smoke leakage in operational areas, metro services between Aarey JVLR and Bandra Colony are not affected, the MMRC confirmed.

Mumbai News: Fire in 7-storey building in Chembur area

In another incident, a 60-year-old man suffered burn injuries in a fire that broke out in a seven-story building in Mumbai’s Chembur area on Wednesday evening. The fire broke out around 10:45 p.m. in building number six of MHADA Colony in Vashi Naka, officials said.

Firefighters were immediately alerted and managed to extinguish the flames within half an hour. The injured man, identified as Nafir Sayyad, suffered burns to his hands, face and neck. He was admitted to Sion hospital, where his condition was considered stable.

The fire in Chembur was confined to one room, affecting a gas cylinder, clothes and other household items. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, another municipal official said.
