Walsall star Jamie Jellis proud as stunner takes top prize

Jellis claimed the top goal with an outstanding effort from distance against the Mariners in Walsall’s excellent 4-1 win at Blundell Park.

The 23-year-old midfielder’s goal was a crucial second goal for Mat Sadler’s side in what proved to be a resounding victory. It was one of many notable moments in a breakthrough campaign for Jellis, who joined the Bescot Stadium from National League North side Tamworth in January.

Jellis won the award after a selection by EFL experts Don Goodman and David Prutton and a public vote.

“It’s a very proud moment for me,” said the Saddlers midfielder. “It’s great to be recognized for this goal and it was a good result in the end, so I’m delighted with that and creating memories for myself and my family. Thank you to everyone who voted for me, I I really appreciate it.

Jellis already has five goals this season and four, including the stunner against Grimsby, have come in his last nine games.

The Walsall man took home the award ahead of Port Vale’s Antwoine Hackford, Bradford City’s Jack Shepherd and AFC Wimbledon’s James Tilley.

The Saddlers are not in action this weekend as their home League Two clash against Gillingham has been postponed due to international call-ups. Club captain Donervon Daniels was on target for Montserrat on Thursday night as the defender’s nation lost 2-1 at home to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines in the Concacaf Nations League.

Meanwhile, Walsall have received an additional 500 tickets for the expected clash at Port Vale on December 7. The Saddlers faithful scooped up the initial allocation of 2,026 around three weeks before the game, with just over 300 now up for grabs.
