Airbnb Guests Arrive Home to Find Everything They Closed

Two friends were beyond shocked when they walked into their booked Airbnb, only to discover that they didn’t have access to the majority of devices and features in the home they had rented.

In a TikTok video, the two women gave viewers a tour of Airbnb and were surprised to find that many of the amenities were either locked or completely inaccessible, even though they had booked it assuming they were renting…well …a house.

Guests arrived at their Airbnb to find that almost everything had been zipped shut, including the refrigerator.

In the minute-long clip, both women found it both hilarious and a little shocking that everything in the house they had rented was off-limits. The refrigerator had a zipper around the handle, effectively preventing them from putting food in it or being able to cook while they were staying at the person’s home.

Not only was the refrigerator zipped shut, but all the surrounding cabinets were as well. Moving forward, the women showed one of the bedrooms in the house, including a nightstand covered in plastic to prevent guests from opening it and/or putting their belongings on it during the stay. “She’s really afraid that her jewelry will be stolen,” one of the women joked, tapping the covered nightstand in amusement.

Although they found humor in their unconventional Airbnb rental, the guests were looking for a refund.

As they continued to walk through the house, the two women noticed that some rooms were locked and decided to take it upon themselves to start checking for other creepy and out of place objects in the house.

Even though they didn’t find anything suspicious, it was definitely a bit strange that an Airbnb host would list their house for sale but refuse to give them access to the basic amenities of a home.

In the comments section, one of the women clarified that she has since opened a complaint for a refund for the stay and also left an honest review about their experience, which was not particularly positive.

Unfortunately, this seems to be a regular occurrence for many Airbnb guests, who either complain about excessive cameras in their rentals or things locked that shouldn’t be locked.

Airbnb has lost a lot of popularity over the past few months.

According to ReutersAirbnb reportedly told investors in August 2024 that they expected a decrease in customer demand for the third quarter.

Even after reporting growth in bookings, the short-term rental company lowered its third-quarter profit forecast to between $3.67 billion and $3.73 billion, below the $3.8 billion expected by marketers. analysts.

New data even showed that traveler demand for short-term rentals was stalled in many parts of the United Statesconsumers complain expensive cleaning costsrising prices, a list of expected tasks to complete at the end of their stay and a lack of quality control.

In fact, according to a 2022 survey, more than 60% of Americans I prefer to book a stay in a hotel instead of renting accommodation like Airbnb. Although Airbnb can sometimes be a cheaper option, many people prefer the conveniences and consistency of a hotel stay.

What certainly doesn’t help Airbnb retain customers is the fact that many of the rental company’s hosts are often rude and expect a little more from their guests than they should, which is evident in this video.

If you don’t want strangers in your house going through your belongings, that’s more than fair, but don’t rent your house and expect guests to follow unreasonable restrictions.
