Announced by CEO Mark Zuckerberg, the feature allows users to curate feeds focused on their favorite topics, profiles or themes, simplifying the experience of following niche interests like sports teams or tech news.

The process of setting up a custom feed on Threads is simple. Users can search for a topic, tap the three-dot menu next to the search term, and select the “create new feed” option.

Alternatively, profiles can be added to a custom feed by tapping the three-dot icon above a user’s profile picture and selecting “Add to Feed.” Once created, these personalized feeds are accessible from the main menu bar, alongside the “For You” and “Next” tabs.

However, Threads does not yet allow users to set these custom feeds or their “Next” feed as the default view, retaining the “For You” tab as the starting point for navigation.

Alec Booker, a spokesperson for Threads, explained how these feeds work. “Customized feeds will show a combination of posts from profiles you’ve added and search results for the selected topic,” he said. Posts appear in reverse chronological order, ensuring that users see the latest updates first.

The implementation of Threads carries resemblance to Bluesky’s custom feeds featurewhich debuted last year. While creating Bluesky feeds often involves technical knowledge or the use of third-party tools like SkyFeed, Threads offers a more intuitive and accessible process, aimed at attracting a wider audience.

The Custom Feeds feature is currently in a limited testing phase, available to a small number of users globally. However, Threads plans to make this tool available to a wider audience in the near future.
