OXFORD, Ohio (WXIX) – Family members of students at Talawanda Middle School are upset over what they call a lack of communication from the district.

Two students attempted to sell marijuana at Talawanda Middle School during the school day, according to an Oxford Police Department report.

“I just feel like they really should have warned the parents so the parents could then talk to the kids, ‘You know, we know this happened and you understand the dangers of just one time ‘Sometimes it’s enough,’” said a family member of a Talawanda student. “I just feel like they have to keep hearing this and without parents knowing it was on school grounds, a lot of kids go on with their lives without even hearing about it.”

The police report states that on Nov. 6, the two 13-year-old students were cited for possession of a controlled substance and released to their parents.

Officers found marijuana, a THC vape and a cell phone after searching a black fanny pack, according to the police report.

Talawanda Local Schools confirmed to FOX19 NOW that there is an investigation into student conduct, but they cannot comment on an open investigation.

The family member said they only found out what happened through a social media post.

“A lot of people are not on Facebook, including me,” said a family member of a Talawanda student. “My son sent it to me and that’s how I found out because he was furious. I just feel like there are probably many, many families who don’t even know at this point that this happened.

Talawanda Schools also said the district generally does not issue a statement regarding student infractions and student discipline.
