City of Wilmington Receives Grant to Improve Energy Efficiency

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – The City of Wilmington has received funding to help improve its energy efficiency.

DOE’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) program awarded $172,690 to the city to reduce fossil fuel emissions and energy consumption.

An electric vehicle fleet transition study will be conducted to improve efficiency in the homes of low- and moderate-income residents. Solar panels will be installed at the River Road Parks and Recreation maintenance facility.

“The City of Wilmington has set ambitious goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 58% by 2050, use 50% clean energy for municipal operations by 2035 (and 100% of ‘by 2050), electrify 50% of the city’s automobile fleet by 2035 (100% by 2050) and objectives to community-wide effort to collaborate on clean energy and equity efforts,” city officials wrote in a press release.
