Boise State RB sensation Ashton Jeanty eyes Cowboys as preferred landing spot in NFL Draft

THE Dallas Cowboys need a running back. The best in college football want to be in Dallas.

Too bad the Cowboys can’t cut out the middleman and sign him immediately.

Dynamic Boise State running back and Heisman Trophy candidate Ashton Jeanty recently made his wishes clear in an interview with “Kickin’ It With Dee” YouTube channel where he discussed his season so far, his shot at Travis Hunter’s Heisman against Colorado, and where Jeanty would like to be drafted in April 2025.

When Jeanty, who spent three seasons at Frisco Lone Star Before committing to Boise State, when asked if he had a preferred landing spot when selected in the 2025 draft, Jeanty cited the Cowboys first and foremost.

“If I could the scenario, my family is all in Texas,” Jeanty said. “I used to play in the Cowboys practice stadium. So with the family being there, all the connections, all the relationships, I feel like (Dallas) would just be the perfect city to play.

How Ashton Jeanty’s journey from Italy to Frisco prepared him for stardom at Boise State

Jeanty has been statistically dominant at Boise State, currently leading all of college football in rushing yards. And it’s not close. He had 1,734 yards in nine games for the 8-1 Broncos. They’re tied for second with 1,328 yards, and both of those players have played in 10 games. And for good measure, he also leads the nation with 23 rushing touchdowns.

The Cowboys, on the other hand, are second to last in the NFL in rushing yardsand their offense has struggled mightily all season due to its almost complete lack of a running game. Dallas appears to have only one back, Rico Dowdle, capable of playing to an NFL standardand finding a new backfield piece appears to be a big priority for the team in the 2025 draft. But that seemed to be the case last season as well, and Dallas didn’t select any in the 2024 draft.

However, the stars could align for the Cowboys and Jeanty in 2025. In fact, Jeanty has already been mocked by the Cowboys in several mock drafts too early in 2025. He’s almost universally projected as a first-round pick, and we already know that Jerry Jones has no qualms about spending a first-round pick on a quote-unquote “special” running back.

If the season ended today, the Cowboys would have the 11th pick in the first round of the draft. Will Jeanty succeed? If so, would the Cowboys pull the trigger?

Time will tell, but for now it seems to make sense for both parties.
