9-year NBA veteran gives bold take on 76ers star Joel Embiid

After starting the year on the bench and serving a three-match suspension, Philadelphia 76ers Star Joel Embiid made his season debut Tuesday night. After his performance against the New York Knicks, a former player gave a bold take on the former MVP.

Embiid did limited work in training camp and did not play in the preseason as the team attempts to limit wear and tear on his body throughout the year. That means Tuesday was his first taste of live action since the Olympics outside of the practice scrum. As expected, Embiid didn’t look like the player we’re used to seeing. He spent 26 minutes against the Knicks and finished with 13 points and two rebounds on 2-of-11 shooting.

During a recent episode of Run It Back on FanDuel TV, Chandler Parsons gave his thoughts on the Sixers star following his season debut. He believes the team should shut down Embiid for the rest of the year.

“I think this will end very soon,” Parsons said. “I feel for this guy but I think in the long run it’s better. He just re-signed his contract. I think it’s going to be closed here soon. They have to plan to go with Drummond, with Yabusele They have to go with these guys because I just don’t see a world this season where Joel Embiid would be back to his old self.

There’s no denying that Embiid wasn’t at his best against the Knicks. However, it seems a bit premature to deploy such sockets. A single release is nowhere near a sufficient sample size to make this kind of decision. Especially in a season where the Sixers have pulled out all the stops to contend for a championship.

While Parsons may want to shut down Embiid, that’s not the case at this time. Nick Nurse said Wednesday that the All-Star center will be back in the lineup against the Orlando Magic on Friday night.
