I cannot ignore the problem of children living in villages

You cannot ignore the problem of children living in Villages.

This was the subject of outrage in the village of DeLuna where a the baby would be alive.

This summer there was boiling fury when four the grandchildren have taken up residence in the village of Tilleul.

Deed restrictions in The Villages state that no person under the age of 19 may live in a home for more than 30 days.

But the problem lies in implementation.

Residents naively believed they could pick up the phone, report the offense and resolve it. But it’s not that simple. Enforcement of laws against children living at home is not within community standards. It’s the developer’s business. Residents were surprised when the developer showed little interest in enforcing the rule against children. They were shocked when a representative for the developer suggested residents could sue and go to court to try to force the removal of the children from a neighboring home.

Recently, the developer appeared eager to hand over enforcement of some internal deed restrictions to community development districts. These supervisors, hearing residents frustrated with the lack of control, were initially tempted to step in and take a look. When they discovered that the burden of enforcement was likely to be a costly hornet’s nest, they backed down.

So who lives in an uncomfortable situation? Dream home buyers looking to live their retirement in a 55+ community.
